Description
The Jantzen Compact MKT is a space-saving polyester film capacitor, designed for crossover networks where physical size is limited and large-value film capacitors would be impractical. While not as sonically refined as polypropylene types, it offers improved clarity over electrolytics and compact dimensions that make it ideal for tight enclosures.
🔧 Specifications:
-
Capacitance Range: 1.0 – 100 µF
-
Tolerance: ±5%
-
Voltage Rating: 160 VDC
-
Dielectric: Metallized polyester (MKT)
-
Construction: Axial leads, non-polarized
-
Size: Very compact compared to PP film caps
-
Loss Factor / ESR: Lower than electrolytics, higher than PP caps
🎧 Sound Profile:
-
Better clarity than electrolytics
-
Slightly warm, less defined than polypropylene types
-
Works well for bass/midrange paths, less ideal for tweeters
✅ Best For:
-
Compact speaker crossovers (especially portable and bookshelf designs)
-
Mid and bass circuits where film sound is preferred but space is tight
-
Replacing electrolytics with improved film-type stability and lifespan
PRODUCT FEATURE
The Compact MKT capacitors are made with the highest quality metalized polyester film possible.
We have been able to make them smaller in size and with better sonic properties compared to “plain/smooth foil” electrolytic capacitors.
With a voltage rating of 160 volts DC, they are also more versatile to use than electrolytic capacitors, usually only rated at either 63 volts DC or 100 volts DC.
Due to their rounded square shape (flat top and bottom surface), they can be easily stacked when it is necessary to couple multiple capacitors in parallel to reach a higher capacity value for a certain crossover position.
As they are stackable, they will take up significantly less space, when compared to round-shaped equivalent values of plain/smooth foil electrolytic, MKT or PP foil capacitors that will need to be mounted side by side.

Please note!
Sizing examples shown below showcase new sizes for plain/smooth foil electrolytic capacitors.
2 x plain/smooth foil electrolytic capacitors 100 µF in parallel:
Total crossover footprint = 46,20 cm

2 x Compact MKT capacitors 100 µF in parallel:
Total crossover footprint = 23,94 cm
